In the Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship, Clapp posted a time of 30:19.33 and finishing 24 out 95 runners.
Clapp is undecided on his major.

Virginia Tech Much Different This Time Around
Of the many motivating factors Virginia Tech has for the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game this Saturday, an obvious one is the revenge factor. Everyone has talked about it. Losing at home on Thursday night with a jam-packed crowd of Hokie faithful on hand. Losing to Boston College in the last three minutes after leading the entire game. Three complete hard fought quarters of football in wet, rainy conditions.
The defense pulled through for most of the game--until the last few minutes. What is different this game for the Hokies? A new and improved offense, one that uses Hampton High's Tyrod Taylor's athleticism more. Running back Brandon Ore appears to be healthier than in previous games, as he has come on much stronger late in the season.
Many think the biggest impact in this game will be Chesapeake's Vince Hall’s return to the Hokie defense. Hall missed the Boston College game due to an injury. He is back and playing just like he did before he missed time with an injury. Now Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan has to watch out for Phoebus High graduate Xavier Adibi as well as Vince Hall.
This is it: the conference championship is on the line and it’s the perfect chance for Virginia Tech to get even with Boston College, along with nabbing a higher Bowl Championship bid.

CNU Falls to 0-4 with Home Loss to Wesley
By Jesse Hines
vigorouswriting.blogspot.com
Christopher Newport men’s basketball team lost 88-84 to Wesley on Wednesday night at the Freeman Center in Newport News. The loss is the Captains’ fourth straight on the season. Once again, a CNU second-half rally couldn’t overcome a first half deficit. CNU trailed 42-35 at the half, although the Captains outscored the Wolverines 49-46 in the second half.
Davon Barton of Bethel High School led the Captains with his first double-double of the year, posting 18 points and 11 assists. Forward Thomas Whinnett scored 17 points.
Rashawn Johnson of Wesley, who came into tonight’s game averaging 25 points per game, led all players with 34 points. Wesley improves to 2-1.
CNU’s next game is Wednesday, December 5, when they are on the road at Randolph-Macon.

CNU Men's Basketball Still Looking for First Win
By Jesse Hines
vigorouswriting.blogspot.com
The Christopher Newport University Captains men’s basketball team hosts the Wesley Wolverines at the Freeman Center in Newport News tonight as they look to get their first victory of the season. This might be the night--CNU leads the all-time series with Wesley four games to none.
CNU (0-3) has been hurting themselves with slow starts this season--so far, CNU’s opponents have outscored them by a combined 136-109 in the first halves; CNU has outscored its opponents 123-120 in the second halves.
Wesley (1-1) is led by junior Rashawn Johnson, averaging 25 points per game for the Wolverines this season. Wesley has not played in 11 days.
Davon Barton, a junior guard from Bethel High School, is the Captain’s top playmaker, averaging 18.3 points and 7 assists per game. Forward Thomas Whinnett, a junior from Liverpool, England, leads CNU in rebounding with 6 boards per game and is second in scoring with 14.3 points per game.
Half of CNU’s roster comes from Tidewater high schools. Joining Barton from the Peninsula is freshman guard/forward Conley Taylor from Menchville High School in Newport News. From the Southside are freshman guard Paul Going from Stonebridge Academy out of Chesapeake and sophomore guard/forward Theo Baker from Landstown High School at the Beach. Lakeland High School in Suffolk boasts two players, sophomores Joshua Russell (guard) and Kenny Reid (forward).
Listen to live streaming of tonight’s game online at Captains Sports Live or on XTRA 99.1 FM out of Gloucester.

Blacksburg Plentiful With Tidewater Players
Let's start with Hampton. Boasting eight players, and perhaps the biggest impact on the Virginia Tech team from one city, the city of Hampton should be quite proud. Five players come from Phoebus High School. Xavier Adibi and D.J Parker have had such tremendous impacts, statistics do not even begin to describe the amount of success they have brought Virginia Tech. The three other Phoebus Phantom stars are young ones, but time is the only factor that is holding them back from contributing. Watch out for tailback Elan Lewis. Mike Smith's legendary program at Hampton High School has two former Crabbers playing for the Hokies this year. True freshman Tyrod Taylor has impacted the Hokie offense and provided a much needed spark to a once very weak offense with his speedy legs. Finally, the lone Bethel Bruin, senior Chris Ellis. Overshadowed by Phoebus and Hampton, Bethel produced a big star in Ellis. Adibi and Ellis help carry the dominating Tech defense.
Newport News only managed one Hokie this year, coming from Denbigh High School.
While eight players reign from the city of Hampton and one from Newport News, all nine come from the mighty Peninsula District, where future professional stars have been produced for decades--Michael Vick and Allen Iverson to name a couple.
Two players from the Bay Rivers District made the roster for Virginia Tech this year. Poquoson High School standout Chad Carlson and Yorktown's Matt Finnegan of Grafton High School represent the solid Bay Rivers District.
Moving on to the southside. Six players from Chesapeake, three from Norfolk, and two from Virginia Beach maintain their roster spots for Virginia Tech this year. Chesapeake provides a tough force with Brandon Ore, Vince Hall, Greg Boone, and Carlton Powell. Maury sent off two players and Lake Taylor sent one. Kellam High School out of Virginia Beach also provided two young players to Virginia Tech.
The Tidewater region nailed twenty-two players for this years roster. I'd say that is pretty jam-packed. The impact the Hampton Roads players have speaks for itself. At quarterback, Tyrod Taylor starts and maintains the new two-quarterback system. Running the ball as usual is Brandon Ore. Catching the ball is Greg Boone. Chris Ellis and Carlton Powell work their respective lines. Defensively, Vince Hall, Xavier Adibi, and D.J. Parker run the field for Virginia Tech.

Salem in the Spotlight
Friday night is considered to be one of the best football games played this year in the Hampton Roads. On one side of the field, there is the 12-0 Salem SunDevils and reigning Beach District champions. On the other, undefeated Oscar Frommel Smith High School from Chesapeake enters the game with one of the most high powered offenses in the area. Salem's vicious running attack rides as far senior Kevin Whaley carries them, while the Tigers go as far as sophomore Phillip Simms passes. What can a defense do to control such dominating offenses? "Try to stop them," said Salem Head Coach Robert Jackson in reference to his team monitoring Oscar Smith. Stopping a team is the most basic principle to winning, hence the old adage, "defense wins championships."
Salem will look for their two-time Beach District Offensive Player of the Year to pull double duty Friday night. Whaley will be the center of attention and he knows it. When asked how he feels about the spotlight and all eyes on him when the ball is placed in his hands, the tough running back seemed pretty comfortable with the idea. "I don't mind it. I believe my team has my back, and we try to win every week," Whaley said. Teams should watch out for his entire field skills. In last weeks showdown against Western Branch, Whaley surprised the Bruins and passed for a touchdown.
With a running game that pressed over 1,000 yards on the ground and a passing attack that racked up more than 2,000 yards this season, the Tigers have practically dismantled teams this year. The Bethel Bruins, the cinderella story of the Peninsula District, experienced Oscar Smith's wrath in a 39-3 whipping last week. Simms and his wide receivers ran wild against Bethel, disproving the hype of the Bruin's highly-touted secondary. Coach Jackson has much respect for the Tiger offense, as he explained to me that there is "little to no weakness" in their offense. Jackson says for his team to repeat as Division 6 Eastern Region Champions, execution is the key factor. The three areas of execution needed are offense, defense, and special teams. The Beach District certainly considers his team more than able to fulfill those duties, as Salem has both the offensive and defensive players of the year, not to mention the Coach of the Year, Mr. Jackson himself.
Led by Whaley, the senior class looks to make one more strong run to a state championship. After a disappointing loss in the opening round of state playoffs last year, Salem hopes to end the year on the highest note, bringing back a title back to Virginia Beach. While Jackson has only coached the SunDevils for three seasons, he has experienced tremendous success. He credits much of that to his talented bunch of seniors. "It's been a good class. They have set the tone for the younger players and hopefully they can pick it up and continue it," Jackson said.
The SunDevils are not looking too far ahead. Friday will be enough of a task, as Oscar Smith will be waiting with their big guns ready to roll. Revenge is in the eyes of the Tigers, as Salem downed Oscar Smith last year in the region title game.
Whaley will once again be in the spotlight at Dick Price Stadium. After a promising practice and even better season, the heralded running back is ready for Friday nights big game. "We have great athletes. We are out to win a state championship," Whaley said.

Roberts Reaches 2,000 Yard Mark
Dyrell Robert's achieved a record he and his head coach sought out to reach - 2,000 yards rushing in a single season. Roberts rushed for over 2,000 yards in the Bay Rivers District and earned himself much respect as a premiere running back. Smithfield High School's football program was at the bottom of the league during Robert's freshman year. Three years later, behind Robert's elusive running and defensive skills, the "Pack" has been near the top of the Bay Rivers standings and is considered one of the top teams in the district. Failing to make the playoffs was a major disappointment for Smithfield, but Roberts should have no complaints in regards to his personal statistics.
Roberts has signed early with Virginia Tech and is expected to serve as a wideout/slot receiver for the Hokies in the fall of 2008.

Nichols to Surry
Surry Community College captured perhaps one of the greatest athlete Windsor ever witnessed. A region power in the northern area of North Carolina, the Surry Knights signed Andre Nichols over the summer to play second base. Nichols will use his fielding ability, quickness, and versatility for the Knights and may see time at shortstop. Surry is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Nichols attended Windsor High School as a freshman, where he starred as a multi-sport athlete. However, Nichols chose to pursue his true passion in baseball and transferred to Greenbrier Christian Academy for the remaining of his high school career. At Greenbrier, he helped lead his team to two Division II state championship appearances. Nichols earned all-conference honors several times on the baseball field, as well as achieving the 1,000 point mark on the basketball court. Nichols headed down south for his freshman year to Newberry, SC on a baseball scholarship.
Nichol's is currently a freshman for the Knights.

Brake Charges IWA to Third Consecutive State Championship
Quarterback Rusty Brake rushed for over a 100 yards and tossed for a pair of touchdowns, leading his Isle of Wight Chargers over Broadwater Academy to a third consecutive state championship. Broadwater Academy (11-1) was undefeated entering the big game, handing the Charger's (11-1) their only loss of the year. IWA burst out of the gates quickly, scoring a rushing touchdown on its first possession. Broadwater answered quickly and much of the first three quarters were a battle of the trenches. The fourth quarter proved to be the difference, as the Chargers widened the lead to 28-14 and drained the clock out. In Broadwater's last attempt to score, IWA intercepted the highly touted quarterback to end the game.
Isle of Wight reigns for the third straight year in a row as Virginia's Private School Division III State champions.

The defending state champions, IWA looks to win its second consecutive title. Rusty Brake anchors the offense with his speedy legs and devastating arm. Styles Major plows lineman on both sides of the whole, opening big holes for Brake to run. Kevin King handles the blocking and catching as he receives Brake's bullet passes.
Kickoff is set for 7PM.

Tyrod Taylor Shines as Hokie
Undefeated in every start as a true freshman, Hampton High's very own has proved to the Hokie nation that he should be the man behind the center every week. With his ability to pass and run, Tyrod Taylor has stumped every team he started against. Established ACC programs such as Florida State and Clemson have felt the pain of Taylor. Taylor rushed for over 100 yards in a big win against Clemson and in defeating Florida State, Taylor tossed for over 200 yards in the air and rushed for 92 yards.
