When these two fellas were 15, spectators were watching a slew of future collegiate talent play at Woodside High School in an AAU state baseball tournament in Newport News, Virginia. Among those names were University of Virginia's freshman pitcher Robert Morey and UNC-Wilmington's freshman pitcher Cameron Roth, both who are playing in the 2008 NCAA Division I baseball regional tournament.
Morey, who starred at pitching, hitting, and fielding, started for the Tidewater Drillers, a team that pulled from some of the Southside's best baseball talent. Roth, who primarily pitched and played the field, played for the Virginia Diamonds.
The Diamonds chose players mostly from the Newport News area, although nearly anything was possible with the witty crew based on the Peninsula. By the end of the season, the Diamonds had their head coach driving from North Carolina every weekend, bringing along with him two players who now play at Barton College and Chowan University, respectively.

The Diamonds edged the Drillers by one run to advance to the state championship.

You should feature Greg Maliniak, former Menchville High School standout, just finished his Sr. season at William & Mary; batted over .350, 12 hr, and 59 RBI
Maliniak did great this season...Glad to see Menchville and Post 25 represented well.
Two good representatives from the Tidewater area. They both should be high draft picks in the future.
Morey is an oustanding athlete. He played solid basketball at Cape Henry Collegeiate in Virginia Beach and could play any position on the diamond.
Roth has grown into a baseball player that is impressing everyone.
Exciting to see both of them do so well this season.
